Pumping slaughterhouse waste with HUS pumps

Date: 09-08-2011

Slaughterhouse waste such as chicken feathers and bones are more and more being used for the production of AO biogas. The biomass is fermented.
Previously, the mass often was processed to be used as fertilizer. Nowadays manure is not the main end product anymore.
The biomass streams are processed to biogas. Only a small portion of the yield is still used to produce manure.

Slaughterhouse waste with very large bones are being pumped to produce biogas. For a Danish biogas company the large percentage of bones (10-13%) created huge problems pumping the pre-grinded biomass. The company started with a heavy duty screw feeder, which caused many problems, being blocked by the bones. As a possible solution the company installed progressing cavity pumps. Due to high wear of the stator also this pump solution was rejected.

HUS offered their unique screw channel pump for a test period.
